Accidents Do Happen
>> Wednesday, December 16, 2009
I read the articles in the Straits Times "Car beats lights, hits 3 men at two junctions", "Toppled crane kills worker" and "Body of Vietnamese student found in hostel cupboard" with a heavy heart.
Within the same page of the newspaper, there were 2 accidents and 1 undetermined cause of death. It acts as a reminder that accidents do happen and we should be prepared for the unexpected.
The wrong take away will be to brush it off and assume that it will not happen to you. No one wishes for accidents to happen but they cannot be fully avoided and eliminated.
As the festive season to make merry approaches, it also serves as a timely reminder that even though you do not drink and drive, others might. So, be vigilant on the roads of those who wish to drive under the influence of alcohol. It is too late to cry over spilled milk and blame the other party after the accident has already happen.
1. Do not assume traffic will obey the traffic signals.
2. Do not assume traffic will give away at zebra crossings.
3. Do not stand near the edge when waiting to cross a junction.
4. Take extra care of the elderly and children.
etc, just to name a few..
Similar to the purpose of taking up insurance. Take the necessary steps to have yourself properly covered based on your needs. It is too late to start complaining after the unexpected happens.
