Newspaper Advertisement Claims

>> Thursday, December 10, 2009

I was inspired to do some calculations by the newspaper advertisement that claim to make profits within a short period of time.

Disclaimer: If any of the trainers or students are reading this, do not feel offended. I am not saying that the course is useless as I personally have not attended them and cannot comment. This is purely mathematical fun.

Claim #1: $10,000 to $2,000,000 within 2 years.
Claim #2: $1,000 to $78,000 within 2 months.
Most others were not so bold to highlight such claims but key words include passive income, consistent profits, minutes a day... well, you get the picture.

Anyway, based on the above profit rates, I was wondering how long it would take for them to be richer than Warren Buffett ($40 Billion) based on a hypothetical initial sum of $10,000 and compounding their profits based on their profit claims.

Claim #1:
2000k/10k = 200%. So, working out for $10,000 to become $40,000,000,000 will take 21.93 periods of 2 years which = 43.8 years.
In under 44 years, he can be richer than the richest man on the planet!

Claim #2:
78k/1k = 7800%. So, working that out again will take 3.489 periods of 2 months which = 6.978 months.
This is most impressive! He can do it in just 7 months! Slightly more than half a year.

Do take note that for these time frames, the initial sum is only $10k, there was no additional top up and we are comparing to the richest man in the world.

Let's have fun with more mathematics.

Claim #0: Make $300,000 with little or no initial capital in just 2 days!

Stop joking, there is no such ad.

Well, it is the same ad, but in the opposite direction. Start a 2 day course. Charge $3,000. Have 100 people attend.

Do it quarterly (i.e. 4 times a year) and rake in over a million a year for a total of 8 days work! Well, you won't reach Buffett's wealth until 40,000 years later with this claim, but is it ok, not ok? Good or good?

An after thought, if I were to conduct a course, my claim would be how a student turn $100 to $300,000 in 1 day with just minutes!

The course is $10/pax and will start after 10,000 students enroll.

It will teach you how to buy 4D from Singapore pools. Each of the 10,000 students will be given a winning strategy of buying a bet of $100 for numbers from 0000 to 9999.

One student will definitely turn his $100 to $300,000 with just a few minutes to purchase the ticket on the day of the draw.

And I'll be $100,000 richer.
