The Trader, Economist and Horse Racing
>> Sunday, December 27, 2009
One fine day, a trader and an economist went to the races.
The trader whispered that he knew a secret algorithm for success and suggested to bet everything on a horse.
The economist was not convinced, he wanted first to understand the rules, look at the horses, meet the jockeys, measure the wind & track conditions, etc.
The trader gave up talking to the economist and proceeded to bet on the horse.
The horse came first bringing the trader a lot of money. Triumphantly, he exclaimed: I told you, I knew the secret!
Out of curiosity, the economist asked him what his secret was.
Trader: It is easy. I have two kids, three and five year old. I sum up their ages and I bet on number nine.
Economist: But wait, three plus five is eight.
Trader: Sigh, I give up, you are simply too theoretical! Have I not just proven that my calculation is correct?!

hehez, but i can't catch the moral of the story?
well, in my opinion.
a trader takes action which some times doesn't make sense as it is not a totally mechanical system.
whereas an economist keeps looking for the reason why things happen to explain them, but doesn't take action as by the time they analyze finish, the situation has changed and it's too late. i.e. time for the next race.
