Singaporeans Less Likely To Die Young
>> Saturday, June 26, 2010
According to a study in the medical journal Lancet, which looked at how adult mortality risk - defined as the risk of dying between 15 and 60 years - showed that Singaporean life expectancy at birth has over the past 40 years increased by 15 years from 66 years in 1970 to 81 years today, among the highest in the world.
Good news, bad news?
- Many are not prepared for the expenses incurred for the increased number of years of retirement.
- Medical treatment could be the reason for the longer life span, however, medical cost are ever increasing.
Living longer should be compared to the quality of life during the "extended" life duration. There is no point in living an extra 15 years only to burden loved ones with high living and medical expenses, and at the same time, suffering with chronic aliments.
